Íèêîëàñ Ýäâàðä Êåéâ ðîäèëñÿ 22 ñåíòÿáðÿ 1957 ãîäà â ãîðîäå Âàððàêàíàáèë, øòàò Âèêòîðèÿ, Àâñòðàëèÿ. Îí âûðîñ â àíãëèêàíñêîé ñåìüå. Âî âðåìÿ ó÷¸áû â õóäîæåñòâåííîì êîëëåäæå Êåéâ âñòðåòèë Ìèêà Õàðâè, ñ êîòîðûì îðãàíèçîâûâàë ïðàêòè÷åñêè âñå ñâîè ïîñëåäóþùèå ìóçûêàëüíûå ïðîåêòû. Ïåðâûì ñòàëà â êîíöå 1970-õ ãðóïïà Boys Next Door, êîòîðàÿ ðàñïàëàñü ê 1980 ãîäó.

Ïîñëå ýòîãî ñîçäàåòñÿ ãðóïïà The Birthday Party, íàçâàííàÿ òàê â ïàìÿòü îäíîé èç ñöåí èç ðîìàíà Äîñòîåâñêîãî «Ïðåñòóïëåíèå è íàêàçàíèå». Ãðóïïà îòïðàâëÿåòñÿ â Åâðîïó, è ðàñïàäàåòñÿ ê 1983 ãîäó. Íåçàäîëãî äî òîãî, Íèê Êåéâ çíàêîìèòñÿ ñ Áëèêñîé Áàðãåëüäîì â ëèäåðîì íåìåöêîé ãðóïïû Einstürzende Neubauten, è âñêîðå ïðåäëàãàåò åìó èãðàòü ó ñåáÿ. Áëèêñà ñîãëàøàåòñÿ, è ó÷àñòâóåò â ïðîåêòàõ Êåéâà íà ïðîòÿæåíèè ïî÷òè 20 ëåò.

Òàê, â 1984 ãîäó âûõîäèò ïåðâûé àëüáîì íîâîé ãðóïïû Êåéâà â Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds â From Her To Eternity. Áîëüøóþ ïîïóëÿðíîñòü Êåéâó ïðèíîñÿò åãî àëüáîìû Let Love In, Henry's Dream è Murder Ballads. Íà àëüáîìå Murder Ballads ïðèñóòñòâóþò äóýòû Êåéâà ñ Êàéëè Ìèíîóã è Ïè Äæåé Õàðâè.

Êåéâà õàðàêòåðèçóþò êàê ìðà÷íîãî è óãðþìîãî ìóçûêàíòà, åãî ÷àñòî ñòàâÿò â îäèí ðÿä ñ Òîìîì Óýéòñîì è Ëåîíàðäîì Êîýíîì[1].

 2006 ãîäó Íèê Êåéâ ñîçäà¸ò íîâûé ïðîåêò â êâàðòåò «Grinderman» íà îñíîâå ãðóïïû, ñîïðîâîæäàâøåé åãî âî âðåìÿ ò. í. «ñîëüíûõ» òóðíå.  2007 ãîäó âûøåë èõ äåáþòíûé îäíîèì¸ííûé àëüáîì, à â 2010 âòîðîé àëüáîì "Grinderman 2".

Îòíîøåíèÿ ñ Àíèòîé Ëýéí (Anita Lane), ó÷àñòíèöåé The Bad Seeds ñ êîíöà 1970-õ äî ñåðåäèíû 1980-õ. Îíà îêàçàëà íåîñïîðèìî ñèëüíîå âëèÿíèå íà Êåéâà è åãî ðàáîòó, ÷àñòî ïîçèöèîíèðóåòñÿ êàê åãî «ìóçà».[èñòî÷íèê íå óêàçàí 325 äíåé] Âîïðåêè ýòîìó, Êåéâ è Ëýéí çàïèñûâàëèñü âìåñòå ðåäêî. Ñàìûé èçâåñòíûé ïëîä ñîòðóäíè÷åñòâà â ýïèçîäè÷åñêîå ïîÿâëåíèå Ëýéí â êàâåð-âåðñèè Êåéâà «Death Is Not The End» Áîáà Äèëàíà (àëüáîì Murder Ballads), è êàâåð-âåðñèÿ ïåñíè Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin «Je tâ™aime/ I love you nor do I». Ëýéí â ñîàâòîð òåêñòà çàãëàâíîãî òðåêà ñ From Her to Eternity, à òàêæå òåêñòà ïåñíè «Stranger Than Kindness» (Your Funeral, My Trial). Êåéâ, Ëèäèÿ Ëàí÷ è Ëýéí âìåñòå ñî÷èíèëè þìîðèñòè÷åñêóþ êíèãó ïîä íàçâàíèåì «AS-FIX-E-8» â ñòèëå ïîçäíåãî «Pussy Galore»/ôèëüìîâ Ðóñà Ìåéåðà.

Ïîñëå çàâåðøåíèÿ äåáþòíîãî ðîìàíà «È óçðå îñëèöà Àíãåëà Áîæèÿ» Êåéâ ïîêèäàåò Çàïàäíûé Áåðëèí íåçàäîëãî äî ïàäåíèÿ Áåðëèíñêîé ñòåíû è îòïðàâëÿåòñÿ â Ñàí-Ïàóëó, Áðàçèëèÿ, ãäå âñòðå÷àåò áðàçèëüñêóþ æóðíàëèñòêó Âèâüåí Êàðíåéðî (Viviane Carneiro). 10 ìàÿ 1991 ðîæäàåòñÿ ñûí Ëþê, íî â áðàê îíè íèêîãäà íå âñòóïàëè.

Âòîðîé ñûí Íèêà Êåéâà, Äæåòðî (ðîä. 1991) æèâåò â Àâñòðàëèè ñî ñâîåé ìàòåðüþ, Beau Lazenby, è ñòðîèò êàðüåðó ìîäåëè.[2]

Íåäîëãèå, íî áóðíûå, îòíîøåíèÿ ñ Ïè Äæåé Õàðâè â ñåðåäèíå 1990-õ îñòàâèëè îùóòèìûé ñëåä â ñòèëåâîé Êåéâà: àëüáîì Murder Ballads, çàïèñàííûé â òî âðåìÿ (1995), ïðèíåñ ãðóïïå ñàìûé ìàñøòàáíûé óñïåõ (ïîñëå êëèïîâ Henry lee (ñ Ïè Äæåé Õàðâè) è Where The Wild Roses GrowÊàéëè Ìèíîóã) MTV íîìèíèðîâàë Êåéâà êàê «ëó÷øåãî ìóæñêîãî èñïîëíèòåëÿ 1996 ãîäà»), à ñëåäóþùèé çà íèì The Boatman's Call ñ÷èòàåòñÿ åãî òâîð÷åñêèì àêìå.[3][4][5]

Áðèòàíñêóþ ìîäåëü Ñüþçè Áèê îí âñòðåòèë â 1997 ãîäó. Çâåçäà ñ îáëîæêè àëüáîìà Phantasmagoria (1985) ãðóïïû The Damned è ìîäåëü Âèâüåí Âåñòâóä, îíà áðîñèëà ñâîþ ðàáîòó, è ëåòîì 1999 ñîñòîÿëàñü æåíèòüáà. Äâîéíÿøêè â Àðòóð è Ýðë â â áðàêå ïîÿâèëèñü â 2000.[6][7] ×åòà íåêîòîðîå âðåìÿ îáèòàëà â ïëàâó÷åì äîìå áëèç Õîóâà.  äàííîå âðåìÿ îíè æèâóò â Áðàéòîí è Õîóâ, Àíãëèÿ.

Êåéâ èñïîëíèë «Into My Arms» íà òåëåòðàíñëèðîâàâøèõñÿ ïîõîðîíàõ Ìàéêëà Õàò÷åíñà (Michael Hutchence), íî îòêàçàëñÿ èãðàòü ïåðåä êàìåðàìè. Êåéâ ÿâëÿåòñÿ êðåñòíûì îòöîì åäèíñòâåííîãî ðåáåíêà Õàò÷èíñà â äî÷åðè Õåâåíëè Õèðààíè Òàéãåð Ëèëè Õàò÷èíñ (Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily).[8]

[ïðàâèòü] Íèê Êåéâ è ðåëèãèÿ

 ïðîøëîì Êåéâ íàçûâàë ñåáÿ õðèñòèàíèíîì.  èçäàííûõ èì ëåêöèÿõ ïî ìóçûêå è íàïèñàíèþ ïåñåí îí óòâåðæäàë, ÷òî ëþáàÿ ñêîëüêî-íèáóäü ïðàâäèâàÿ ïåñíÿ î ëþáâè - ýòî ïåñíÿ ïî íàïðàâëåíèþ ê Áîãó (äëÿ Áîãà; îò Áîãà: song for God), à òàêæå ïðèïèñûâàë ñìÿã÷åíèå (è ñîçðåâàíèå) ñâîåé ìóçûêè ïåðåìåùåíèþ ôîêóñà ñî Ñòàðîãî Çàâåòà íà Íîâûé. Îí íå ïðèíàäëåæèò ê êîíêðåòíîé êîíôåññèè è îòäåëèë ñåáÿ îò ðåëèãèè êàê îò «÷èñòî àìåðèêàíñêîãî ÿâëåíèÿ, êîòîðîå óêðàëî, ïðèâàòèçèðîâàëî èìÿ Áîãà».[9]  èíòåðâüþ The Guardian â 2009 ãîäó îí ñêàçàë: «Âåðþ ëè ëè÷íî ÿ â ïåðñîíèôèöèðîâàííîãî Áîãà? Íåò.»[10]

 íåäàâíåé (2010) ñòàòüå Los Angeles Times ðàçüÿñíåíî: «ß íå ðåëèãèîçåí, ÿ íå õðèñòèàíèí, íî ÿ îñòàâëÿþ çà ñîáîé ïðàâî íà âåðó â âîçìîæíîñòü ñóùåñòâîâàíèÿ Áîãà. Ýòî êàê ïîïûòêà äîêàçàòü òî, ÷òî äîêàçàòü íåâîçìîæíî... ß êðèòè÷åñêè îòíîøóñü ê [îôèöèàëüíûì] ðåëèãèÿì, ê òîìó, ñêîëüêî ðàçðóøåíèÿ îíè ïðèíîñÿò. Íî, êàê ìóçûêàíò è êàê òâîðåö, ÿ ñ÷èòàþ, ÷òî ìíå áåç ýòîãî íå îáîéòèñü - áåç ÷àñòè÷êè áîæåñòâåííîãî, êîòîðàÿ ïðîíèçûâàåò íàñêâîçü ìîè ïåñíè».[11]

Íà ëè÷íîñòü è òâîð÷åñòâî Íèêà Êåéâà ñèëüíî ïîâëèÿëà õóäîæåñòâåííàÿ ëèòåðàòóðà, ïðîèçâîäèâøàÿ íà íåãî áîëüøîå âïå÷àòëåíèå ñ äåòñòâà. Ïî ñëîâàìè ñàìîãî Êåéâà[12], ó íåãî áûë õîðîøèé ó÷èòåëü ëèòåðàòóðû, à îòåö ïûòàëñÿ «âäîëáèòü» åìó â ãîëîâó äâà ôðàãìåíòà èç êíèã: íà÷àëüíóþ ñöåíó èç «Ëîëèòû» Íàáîêîâà è ñöåíó óáèéñòâà èç «Ïðåñòóïëåíèÿ è íàêàçàíèÿ» Äîñòîåâñêîãî.

Êåéâ íàïèñàë ðîìàí «È óçðå îñëèöà Àíãåëà Áîæèÿ», èçäàííûé â 1989 ãîäó. Êðîìå òîãî, Íèê Êåéâ ÿâëÿåòñÿ àâòîðîì ïîýòè÷åñêèõ ñáîðíèêîâ «Êîðîëü ×åðíèëî. Òîì I» è «Êîðîëü ×åðíèëî. Òîì II». «È óçðå îñëèöà Àíãåëà Áîæèÿ» ïåðåâ¸ë íà ðóññêèé Èëüÿ Êîðìèëüöåâ.  ñåíòÿáðå 2009 ãîäà â ñâåò âûøåë âòîðîé ðîìàí Êåéâà â «Ñìåðòü Áàííè Ìîíðî» (The Death of Bunny Munro). Îáå êíèãè ïåðåâåäåíû íà ðóññêèé ÿçûê.

[ïðàâèòü] Äåÿòåëüíîñòü â êèíî

Ïåðâûé ñâîé ñàóíäòðåê Íèê çàïèñàë â 1983 ãîäó äëÿ ôèëüìà «Standt. Die». Çà íèì ïîñëåäîâàëî ìíîæåñòâî äðóãèõ, â òîì ÷èñëå çàïèñàííûå âìåñòå ñ Áëèêñîé Áàðãåëüäîì è Ìèêîì Õàðâè «To Have and To Hold» è «Ghosts ofâ Civil Dead». Íèê òàêæå ñòàë ñîàâòîðîì ïîñëåäíåãî è ñûãðàë â í¸ì îäíó èç ðîëåé.

Âûñòóïëåíèå The Bad Seeds ìîæíî óâèäåòü â ôèëüìå Âèìà Âåíäåðñà «Íåáî íàä Áåðëèíîì» (íåì. Der Himmel über Berlin, 1987). Êåéâ òàêæå ñíèìàëñÿ âìåñòå ñ Áëèêñîé Áàðãåëüäîì â ôèëüìå «Äýíäè» Ïåòåðà Çåìïåëÿ (íåì. Peter Sempel) è åù¸ íåñêîëüêèõ íåçàâèñèìûõ ôèëüìàõ.

 2005 ãîäó íà ýêðàíû âûøåë âåñòåðí «Ïðåäëîæåíèå» (The Proposition) ïî ñöåíàðèþ Íèêà Êåéâà, ñ ñàóíäòðåêîì Êåéâà è åãî êîëëåãè ïî Bad Seeds Óîððåíà Ýëëèñà. Íà ýòîì Íèê íå îñòàíîâèëñÿ â îí ó÷àñòâîâàë â çàïèñè ìóçûêàëüíîãî ñîïðîâîæäåíèÿ ê ôèëüìó «Äîðî́ãà» (The Road) â ïîñòàïîêàëèïòè÷åñêîìó õóäîæåñòâåííîìó ôèëüìó Äæîíà Õèëëêîóòà, ýêðàíèçàöèè îäíîèì¸ííîãî ðîìàíà Êîðìàêà Ìàêêàðòè, à íà 2011 ãîä ïëàíèðóåòñÿ âûõîä íîâîãî ôèëüìà ïî åãî ñöåíàðèþ, «Death of a Ladies' Man».

Íèê Êåéâ î ðîê-í-ðîëëå

ß ëþáëþ ðîê-í-ðîëë. Ýòî íåâåðîÿòíàÿ ðåâîëþöèîííàÿ ôîðìà ñàìîâûðàæåíèÿ, ñïîñîáíàÿ èçìåíèòü ÷åëîâåêà òàê, ÷òî îí ñàì ñåáÿ ïåðåñòàåò óçíàâàòü. Âïðî÷åì, ÿ âûíóæäåí ïðèçíàòü: â ðîê-í-ðîëëå î÷åíü ìíîãî ãîâíà. Î÷åíü[13].

Èíòåðâüþ æóðíàëó Esquire

Ïåñíè Êåéâà î÷åíü âîñòðåáîâàíû â êèíî, îíè âîøëè â ñàóíäòðåêè áîëåå ÷åì ê òðèäöàòè ôèëüìàì.

 1990 ãîäó âûøåë äîêóìåíòàëüíûé ôèëüì î The Bad Seeds «Äîðîãà Áîã çíàåò êóäà» ðåæèññ¸ðà Óëè Ì. Øóïïåëÿ.
